University of Nebraska-Lincoln honors local students at All-University Honors Convocation
University of Nebraska-Lincoln undergraduate students will be honored in conjunction with UNL's All-University Honors Convocation April 14 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, including 42 seniors who will be recognized as Chancellor's Scholars, the university's highest undergraduate academic honor.
Students are recognized at Honors Convocation for their cumulative academic achievements (compared with Dean's List, which is for one semester). Honorees include:
az? Chancellor's Scholars, students who graduated in December or who will receive their degrees in May or August and have maintained 4.0 grade-point averages on all collegiate work at UNL and elsewhere;
az? Superior Scholars, seniors graduating in the 2012-13 academic year who have been recognized at Honors Convocation each year of their enrollment;
az? High Scholars, students other than Chancellor's Scholars and Superior Scholars who are in the top 10 percent of their class.

Students named as RHOP participants, alternates at CSC
Incoming student participants in the collaborative Rural Health Opportunities Program between Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska Medical Center have been named. Jill Mack, director of Health Programs and RHOP at CSC said, "They are a great group of students and we look forward to having them here in August."
Mack said some interviews, which took place in January, were conducted in-person while others were conducted using distance technology. Students must be residents of rural communities in Nebraska to apply for the program. All participants receive four-year, full-tuition waivers as long as they remain eligible.

Area students win scholarships to UNL
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has awarded more than 1,700 scholarships to 2012 Nebraska high school graduates who are enrolled at UNL this fall. The total potential value of the scholarships is more than $14.5 million.
The awards include 29 Chancellor's Scholarships, 367 Regents Scholarships (including 106 Nebraska Top Scholars), 84 Nebraska Achievement Scholarships, 69 David Distinguished Scholarships, 641 James H. Canfield Scholarships, 81 Chancellor's Leadership Class scholarships and 351 University Honors Program textbook scholarships.

34 Nebraskans to enter RHOP at Chadron State
Thirty-four Nebraska high school students have been selected to participate in the Rural Health Opportunities Program at Chadron State College beginning this fall.
The selections were based on college entrance examination scores, academic success and leadership exhibited in high school and personal interviews.
RHOP began in 1990 as a joint venture between CSC and the University of Nebraska Medical Center to help counter the shortage of medical professionals in rural Nebraska. Graduates of RHOP are encouraged and expected to return to the rural areas of Nebraska to practice.

Area musicians in CSC band concert this week
Musicians from the area will be among those performing in the Chadron State College music department's combined concert featuring the Wind Symphony, CSC's top concert band, and the Chadron Community Symphonic Band, which consists of both students and community members.
The concert, which features a total of 71 musicians, will be Friday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the ballroom of the CSC Student Center. Admission is free.

Area students cast in 'Charlie Brown' at CSC
Students from the area are among the cast members starring in the Chadron State College theatre program's upcoming production of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown."
Six students will play the parts of the timeless characters created by Charles Schulz in his comic strip, "Peanuts." The play will run Oct. 6-9 in the Memorial Hall auditorium. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Area students win medals at CSC Scholastic Contest
Students from the region were among the medalists at the 51st Scholastic Contest at Chadron State College on Friday, April 1.
Each year, the Scholastic Contest attracts the region's brightest high school students. This year's contest had 1,457 entries, the most since 2005. The seniors who win gold in the Scholastic Contest qualify for CSC's Scholastic Achievement Award, which covers the in-state portion of tuition for the next academic year.

Area students selected for CSC's High Plains Festival
Students from the region have been selected to participate in the 39th annual Chadron State College High Plains Band and Choir Music Festival on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 7-8.
Each of the 232 students was selected for one of the event's four groups by submitting audition tapes last fall. The groups are honor band, honor choir, girls' choir and festival band.
During the event's second day, the groups will perform a concert at 5 p.m. in Memorial Hall. It is open to the public free of charge.

CSC students earn academic honors
Students from the region were among the 564 names on the Chadron State College academic honors lists for the spring 2010 semester. A total of 225 students were named to the president's list, which requires straight A's. An additional 339 achieved the dean's list, which requires a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students must be enrolled in 12 credit hours of coursework during the semester to qualify.

Area music students selected for Chadron State festival
High school students from the region have been selected to participate in the Chadron State College High Plains Band and Chorus Festival on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 2-3. Following two days of rehearsals, the students will present a concert at 5 p.m. Tuesday in CSC's Memorial Hall.
Students auditioned for parts in the festival's four ensembles by submitting recordings last fall. Members of the CSC music faculty selected the participants.
In all, 280 students from 28 high schools within a 200-mile radius of Chadron are participating in the annual event.
